In a bid to counter the Indian Test of the Agni II IRBM missiles, Pakistan launched the Shaheen (Royal White Falcon). It can carry a one metric ton payload. The claimed range of the Shaheen is 750 km, which means that missiles launched from Lahore can successfully hit New Delhi. The Shaheen uses solid fuel. This enables the Shaheen to be launched on a 15 minutes notice, unlike the liquid fuel loaded missiles, which require a six-hours notice for the launch. The Solid fuel does not damage the missile or even expire for a period of 10 years.
Pakistan has also prepared a terminal guidance system for the missile. The development of this system gives maximum accuracy to the Shaheen missile. The missile is designed to be fast enough to prevent interception from missile interception systems. During the test flight of the Shaheen missile it was observed that its speed is three times more than the speed of its Indian counterpart, the Agni-II missile.
