MULTIPLE RE-ENTRY VEHICLES (MRV)
The ultimate mark in any missile attack is left by the warhead. The Multiple Re-entry Vehicle (MRV) is one such warhead system, where an ICBM can be studded with different warheads put together. As a result many warheads can eliminate a single target once and for all. The different warheads also give the option of destroying various targets scattered in a vast area. In the US Navy it is said that "nothing survives when an MRV strikes".
The Soviets were the first to introduce the SS-9 Scrap multiple re-entry vehicles. Later, they developed an advanced version of the MRV called the fractional orbit bombardment system (FOBS).
Yet another advanced version of the MRV is the multiple independently targeted re-entry vehicles (MIRV), which can load different nuclear warheads on a single ICBM.
