INTER-CONTINENTAL BALLSITIC MISSILES (ICBM)
In a race to become the ultimate super power, the United States and the Soviet Union developed the Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBMs). As the name suggests these missiles can traverse between continents covering distances as large as 12,000 km. The ICBMs can carry massive warheads including nuclear ones across the great distances. All the warheads can annihilate a single target or various targets with pinpoint accuracy.
The most interesting feature of an ICBM is its guidance system. The guidance system controls the missile's flight, aim and speed. For instance, the guidance system in the United States' MX Peacekeeper missiles is capable of automatically deciding the suitable direction and speed of the missile after locating the target.
The large size of the ICBM is disadvantageous, as it cannot be easily concealed from the enemy on the ground.
